Abbreviated Japanese-English words

You need to be aware that a lot of the Japanese-English words have been abbreviated. Here are some common mistakes I hear in class:

ソフト
デパート・コンビ二・スーパー
ビーチバレー
メール
アドレス

If you use these words on TOEFL (or elsewhere), you have to use the English version, not the Japanese.

software
department store, convenience store, supermarket
beach volleyball
e-mail
e-mail address

There are 100s of words like these, so be careful!

 Please use English well!
